NDIS Short Term Accommodation

NDIS Respite Accommodation

Short Term Accommodation (STA), including respite, is an essential support aimed at providing temporary relief for primary caregivers. It offers a secure and supportive environment for individuals with disabilities to stay in for a brief period. This service gives caregivers a much-needed break while ensuring their loved ones receive the necessary care and support. Respite care goes beyond a simple change of scenery; it provides participants with opportunities to engage in new activities, form friendships, and enjoy a well deserved break from their daily routine. Short Term Accommodation (STA) support may be ideal if your usual support network is temporarily unavailable. STA includes personal care, accommodation, meals, and activities agreed upon with your provider. Typically, up to 28 days of STA per year is funded by the NDIS, allowing for flexible use, such as a 14 day block or one weekend a month. Funding is based on standard rates outlined in the NDIS pricing arrangements and is usually for group settings unless individual support is required due to your disability.

What You Need to Know

  • Funding: If you have funding in your Core budget, it can be allocated to STA, helping you pursue the goals in your plan. For assistance with accessing STA support, you can contact your support coordinator, local area coordinator, early childhood partner, or NDIS planner.
  • Types of Accommodation: Respite services are available in different settings, including specialised care homes, community centres, and shared living arrangements. These environments are designed to be welcoming, safe, and fully equipped to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities.
  • Support Staff: Your SDA service provider should connect you with trained and compassionate support staff who are dedicated to providing high-quality care during your stay. They should be experienced in supporting individuals with various needs, ensuring that each participant feels comfortable, respected, and valued.
